Dr. M. C. Nahata was born in a Swetambar Jain Family on July 24th, 1931 in Rampura village, Dist. Neemuch. He got his primary education in Rampura and cleared high school from K. M. S. High School in 1947 from Rajputana Board, Ajmer. After high school he got admission in Holkar College and then after he had completed his medical studies from M. G. M. Medical College, Indore.

Dr. Nahata got married to Premkumari on 15th December 1958. The couple is blessed with two children. The first Dr. Mukta Jain - a renowned Gynaecologist and second Atul Nahata - Engineer and renowned businessman.

Dr. Nahata was appointed in Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal where he had been promoted first as a Reader than as Head of Department. There he has worked hard to make the department well equipped and to provide better eye care to the patient. Recognizing his work done, he was appointed as a Hon. Secretary of Indian Medical Association in 1963. In 1964, State Conference had been organized in Bhopal which is a milestone of his professional life as the conference had been great success. All the credit goes to the Dr. M. C. Nahata. He is the first Eye surgeon who organized an eye camp in rural area of Begamganj, Dist. Raisen. From there he got the name and fame and regonisition as a Eye Specialist & Surgeon working for rural people. In 1968, he came back to Indore Medical College. In International scenario he has been recognized when he was selected for Colombo Yojna. For further research in retinal surgery he was selected for world renowned institute Moorfield Eye Hospital, London where he had been there for 1 year. After returning back to Indore from London, Dr. Nahata started first Retinal Clinic in M. Y. Hospital. In Ganjbasoda block he was the first eye surgeon who used the machine named Phacometer for spectacle checkup.

It is Dr. Nahata’s effort that first Laser Photo Cogulator machine has been installed in Indore. In 1983, he had started the first Laser Surgery in M. P. for the betterment of people. He had attended the International Conference on Eye Care held in Malaysia in 1981. He was invited to read his research paper on Laser and Retina in Tunis of Tunisia and Nagoya in Japan. He was specially invited in Berlin, Germany for his research papers. He had also worked as a Visiting Faculty in Lubin University of Poland, In 1998 National Conference on Low Vision held in Mumbai and in 1999 for International Conference held in New York, he was invited as a guest. It was his hard work that in the year 2000 an International Conference was organized in Indore with a great success.

Dr. Nahata is one of the founder members of Indore Divisional Ophthalmic Society and after that M. P. Ophthalmological Society. He was the President in M. P. State Ophthalmic Society from 1975 to 1982. He was the Managing Committee Member for six year - 1980 to 1986 in All India Ophthalmic Society. He is the President of Rastriya Netra Surksha Sanstha for last 30 year and National Vice President from 1986.

During the last 50 years of his professional life he organized more than 700 eye camps in rural areas of M.P. in which more than 2 lacs people were treated successfully. In 1984, during Bhopal Gas Tragedy his work had been remarkable. In 1990 he was promoted to Senior Professor in Medical College Gwalior. In the same year he was appointed as a member in M. P. Lokseva Aayog and worked till 23 July 1993. He is the active member of Dharma Bharti - an International Association. His work has also been recognized by the Rotary Club International and now he is the member of the club.

Dr. Nahata has been awarded by Dr. G. S. Wagle Award for his remarkable work in Retinal Detachment and Eye Care by Madhya Pradesh Ophthalmic Society in 1976. Dr. Nahata was selected twice for Sir John Willson Trophy. On 22 various occasions he was being honoured publicly which has been record in medical history. On 3rd December 1998, Prime minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpeyee has awarded Dr. M. C. Nahata with National Award. We wish him long and healthy life.
